Tournament: Combat and Conquest – a Review of a lecture at the Royal Armouries, Leeds

Wednesday 24 April 2013 at Royal Armouries.

Speaker: Karen Watts – Senior Curator of Armour

What a great talk. I can’t possibly do it justice, the wealth of information and the clear and entertaining way it was put across would simply take pages to describe. I’m being utterly honest with this. Part way through the lecture I thought to myself, “I wish this was a DVD”.

For one thing I know others that would have enjoyed watching the DVD with me as I watched it again. For another there was just so much to take in.

Yes I do already have a reasonable understanding of the world of Tournament. I hope that came across in my article about the Easter Joust at the Royal Armouries. Continue reading

St Georges Day Celebrations Morley

St George’s day in England is 23rd April, this being a Tuesday in 2013 many areas will have marked the day on  the weekend closest to the date. Morley, a town near Leeds, took this option. Morley falls within the boundaries of Leeds City Council but is a town in its own right, receiving its Charter in 1886.

I decided to attend this year, I am not Morley resident, as the Earl of Manchester’s Regiment of Foote, a part of the Sealed Knot English Civil War re-enactment society. I decided earlier this year that I required a new hobby and around the time I decided this I saw a tweet from someone I followed regarding this regiment. I contacted him for more info, looked at the website and decided it looked worth a try. Before joining though I wanted to see them in action. Continue reading

Tournament: Combat and Conquest – a lecture at the Royal Armouries, Leeds – 24 April 2013

Wednesday 24 April 2013 at Royal Armouries, Leeds in the Bury Theatre. 18:30 to 20:30. Tickets £5.00

Speaker: Karen Watts – Senior Curator of Armour

I previously wrote about a Jousting Tournament at the Royal Armouries over Easter. I had a great time watching the Joust and writing up the experience.

Next Wednesday, 24th April 2013, I will again be at the Royal Armouries attending this lecture. As I said in my article at Easter I’ve been to the Armouries many times to watch Jousting and to look around the museum. Never forgetting the gift shop, which is as usual near the entrance/exit (like The Doctor, I like a good gift shop).
