Judge Minty success at Wasteland Film Festival

Wasteland Film Festival was held 26 to 29 September 2013. The festival celebrates films with a post apocalyptic theme. Judge Minty clearly fits that category.

I’m not sure exactly where it was held but the location is a fenced off area in the desert in Southern California.

The event is a 360º immersion weekend. All attendees must dress in costume that fits in with the post apocalyptic theme. Campsites and vehicles must also comply with this. They make it clear on their website that this is not a LARP but given the costumes and encouragement for attendees to organise themselves as tribes I should imagine it feels quite like one.

I heard about this via Jared Butler, the voice of Judge Dredd in Judge Minty. Judge Minty didn’t get the Grand Prize, the Best Post Apocalyptic Film went to DAEMONIUM – The Zero Hour. But Minty bagged the Best Action Film award as well as the coveted Audience Award. To get the award from the attending viewing public is pretty darn good.

Of course I’ve been a fan of Judge Minty from early on.

I watched it grow with interest as the team slowly drip fed us details. I attended the premiere at the Leeds International Film Festival in November 2013 and again a week later at Thought Bubble. I’ve reviewed the film a couple of times and I’ve interviewed several of the cast and crew.

But the attention the film has now gathered worldwide just proves what a great job the team did. From the writers, Steve Sterlacchini and Michael Carroll, Director of Cinematography Steve Green and Prop Designer Daniel Carey-George to the actors and voice actors Edmund Dehn, Jared Butler, Integra Fairbrook and others

I assume most of my regular readers have seen the film but if you haven’t I highly recommend it. You can view it on the Judge Minty site or Vimeo; a link is also in most of the interviews above.

In the mean time here is a list of all the winners at Wasteland with links to some of the films, quoted from Wasteland Film Festival’s Facebook page.

“Grand Prize: Best Post Apocalyptic Film: DAEMONIUM – The Zero Hour
Post Apocalyptic Honorable Mention: Wastelander Panda & Yellowstone

Best Music Video: All Circles
Best Action Film: Judge Minty
Best Atmospheric/Weird Film: Tender Wild Animal

Audience Award: Judge Minty

The two features this year were not counted in the awards this time around (not due to quality, but more to the fact that they are kind of their own monster).
The Romantic (watch full length movie at: https://vimeo.com/19855489)
Dust of War (watch trailer at: http://youtu.be/4cloORDih-M)

Why not have a read of my article about  DAEMONIUM: La Hora Cero there is the full movie embeded in the article.
