Sinister Dexter created by Dan Abnett & David Millgate
These are a collection of stories originally published in 2000AD.
I have listed the contents below the review and if you take a look you’ll see this collection is heavily edited. The earliest in this collection is from Prog 1099 (23rd June 1998) but the strip debuted in the 1995 Winter Special, which was published in December 1995.
I’m sure they have their reasons, though I don’t know what they are. That said this is still an interesting selection of tales.Finnegan Sinister and Ramone Dexter are Gun Sharks in the city of Downlode. Or in other words; hitmen in a future megalopolis spanning much of Europe.
The shifting of the strips does make the characters alter in looks a little more frequently than actually occurred. If I were to cast anyone as Finnegan Sinister it would be Irish comedian Ed Byrne. The art is on the main very good. With a strip that has been going 19 years there is bound to be variation.
Script wise the characters are excellent, they are flawed yet rounded even though the stories themselves are almost always quite unrealistic. That’s the charm of this story about a pair of killers. They are likable rogues who just happen to kill people for a living. The setting is quirky to say the least and much of the plot is played for laughs. Dark and light even things out.
If you’ve never read these stories, give them a go. You can always pick up the 2000AD trades later to get things in order.
