poldarkPoldark (2015)

Premiere in UK Sunday 8th March 2015 BBC1
Premiere in USA July 2015 on PBS

Based on the novels of Winston Graham

Starring

Aidan Turner as Ross Poldark
Eleanor Tomlinson as Demelza
Heida Reed as Elizabeth Chenoweth
Kyle Soller as Francis Poldark

Ross Poldark returns from the American War of Independance to his native Cornwall to find his beloved Elizabeth is betrothed to his cousin, Francis.

The original series was very popular in the 1970s, Robin Ellis who played Ross Poldark appears in this version as Reverend Halse.

This remake has been billed as one of BBC’s premier original dramas for 2015. So it is getting quite a bit of interest. I’m interested because of the Equine cast and the stunt riders.

Ross Poldark’s horse is called Darkie. Darkie is portrayed by Seamus who I know as a member of the Equine part of Atkinson’s Action Horses. The team regularly appear at Royal Armouries in Leeds performing Stunt Shows and the annual Easter Joust. Den Atkinson is Aiden Turner’s double in riding sequences and other members of Atkinson Action Horses, both Human and Equine, are appearing in the show.

You can read much more about this elsewhere on this blog.

The team also supply horses, training and stand-ins for film and TV. You can read more about Seamus and his involvement on the Poldark fan blog Poldarked. BBC’s Poldark page is rather sparse on detail as I write this but that’ll be changing soon I should thing – so keep an eye on it.

I will be watching & trying to spot the horses and riders that I know.

Here is the preview that BBC have released on their UK site & You Tube.
