Matt Smith, Editor of the Megazine, introduces this Jump On edition where all the stories start this issue.
Among the strips is Storm Warning by Leah Moore, John Reppion and Tom Foster. Tom won the 2000AD Portfolio Competition at Thought Bubble in Leeds in 2013. You can read an interview with Tom about winning the competition. I’ve also interviewed Leah and John.
Also in this issue is a new Dredd story from Gordon Rennie and Carlos Ezquerra, And yes, I’ve interviewed both of them, Gordon’s interview is mostly about Jaigir and the interview of Carlos is about Strontium Dog and was originally printed in Dogbreath issue 28.
I’ve not interviewed the rest of the creators in this issue… well not yet anyway.
Here’s what is in the issue.
Great to see an interview with Alex Ronald!
Judge Dredd: El Maldito Part 1
Script: Gordon Rennie
Art: Carlos Ezquerra
Letters: Annie Parkhouse
Set in the Cursed Earth on a private company’s property. No Judges here and it seems what passes for peace keepers might not be what it should be. There is a stranger in town with something to say about this situation.
This story reminds me of something but I haven’t put my finger on it. I don’t mean the plot. It might be the design of Maldito. Of course I’ve read a lot of things with art by Carlos.
Demon Nic Part 1
Script, Art & Letters: Paul Grist
Colours: Phil Elliott
A new story, new character.
This one is set in modern day UK. No idea how it ties in with Dredd’s continuity, if indeed it does. Actually I’m guessing it isn’t set in the same world.
Somethings not quite right and a Priest and a Demon are trying to figure it out.
Storm Warning: The Relic Part 1
Script: Leah Moore and John Reppion
Art: Tom Foster
Colours: Kirsty Swan
Letters: Simon Bowland
Set in Brit Cit the story starts in 2117 and then shifts to 2137 (present day in Judge Dredd). This is Brit Cit’s Psi Div, we’ve seen Psi Div before in Strange & Darke (Megs 319 to 323). This has a brand new set of characters.
At least one connection between the 2117 and 2137 scenes are that a Judge on the case is now head of Psi.
Lawless: Between Badrock and A Hard Place Part 1
Script: Dan Abnett
Art: Phil Winslade
Letters: Ellie De Ville
The township of Badrock on 43 Riga, Colonial Marshall Metta Lawson is in charge. The first series of Lawless started in Meg 350.
This story isn’t directly connected to Insurrection, by Dan Abnett and Colin MacNeil, but as with that story we are seeing how Mega City One deals with the law for those that live off-world.
