This is the second volume of Department of Monsterology from the same team.

Department of Monsterology is about a Dunsay College research team , correctly known as the Department of Cryptozoology, Mythological Studies, Parapsychology and Fortean Phenomena. Easy to see why people refer to it as the Department of Monsterology.

I really enjoyed the first series but it did suffer from a slow pick up from the buying public. You can easily catch up on the series through Comixology. I’ve preordered the collection from my Local Comic Store (LCS). I think it is extra important to do this with the smaller independent publishers.

Don’t under estimate how important preordering is – and that three months before issue 1 hits the shops a publisher may already be considering the future of a comic you haven’t read yet. So anytime you think ‘I’ll try that new title’ try to Pr-Order at least 3 Months in advance.

This is a creative team I’ve read a lot… And reviewed quite a bit. In fact I’ve also interviewed Gordon Rennie, PJ Holden and Jim Campbell (though not all about Monsterology). I see these names and I know that I’ll enjoy a comic.

The first series showed how a big cast can be introduced quickly without fuss. This could be due to Gordon Rennie’s work in the British anthology 2000AD where he usually has 5 or 6 pages to get a reader hooked. Of course the ability of PJ Holden to give a distinctive look to around a dozen characters so that we know who is who at a glance helps.

The story follows field researchers looking in to the strange and the bizarre. Some may say that a member or so of the team would fit that description themselves. Be it creatures from another time or dimension these academics will track them down.

It is a lively script and full of punch with art that matches.

Each issue has a cover from Pye Parr; which I assume will be included in the collected volume. The issues will be on Comixology every dfour weeks starting 30th September and 1 week larter on ‘other platforms’
