Last Month the news broke that 2000AD had been refused entry in to Free Comic Book Day for 2016. This was quite a shock given that 2000AD is the UK’s most influential comic
Today I received a Press Release from Rebellion confirming that 2000AD had now been confirmed as part of next year’s FCBD event. Welcome news to many I am sure.
Free Comic Book Day is an annual event that started in USA and has grown to take place in a number of countries including UK and Australia.
Major publishers such as the ‘Big Two’, DC and Marvel, take part as do many smaller publishers. Most of the companies involved are based in North America still but Rebellion have been involved for the past four years.
The 2000AD FCBD issue has always included new material, something some other Publishers don’t do. There have also been a few selected reprints. The 2016 issue will be a whopping 48 pages.
The whole point of FCBD is to encourage readers back in to their Local Comic Store (often referred to as LCS). Participating stores buy the line of comics from the organisers and give them away to readers on a first come first served basis. In most stores customers are welcome to take as many comics as they wish so long as they only take one of each title.
You can find a full list of the comics that are part of the event for 2016 by following this link. The event is on 7th May 2016.
Many stores will go further and offer free back issues, posters, t-shirts, badges, etc.
I thoroughly enjoy FCBD and take part alongside my Son and his Fiance. I’m really very pleased that 2000AD are once again involved.
Michael Molcher, head of PR for Rebellion has announced:

Ben Smith, head of books and comic books for Rebellion Publishing, said:
“We are delighted to have been invited back into 2016’s Free Comic Book Day celebrations. The clamouring from our fans has been amazing and we are very pleased – and, indeed, thrilled – that we can now bring them our huge 48-page bumper comic, with work by creators including Eric Powell, Mike and Laura Allred, Peter Milligan, Carlos Ezquerra, Henry Flint, and Joëlle Jones – and all for free!
