Judge Dredd: Uprising – LIVE Experience in London, UK – Due to open Spring 2021

Hardly a surprise that as a fan of 2000AD and Judge Dredd from the start the news of this Live Event is extremely interesting to me

This blog started life for a Judge Dredd online RPG which stumbled and fell. I’d previously been one of the Games Masters and Players on Play Dredd RPG Forum which had folded and hoped to continue.

Then the 2012 Dredd film by Alex Garland came along and I went to the Fan Pre-release Screening in London. Had a brilliant day and saw a film which brought the feel of the comic to the screen, something I felt the 1995 Stallone movie had failed to do.

So this blog became a Review & Preview blog for Films, Comics and Books with an unapologetic bias towards Judge Dredd, 2000AD and British Indie Comics. That’s not to say I don’t Review and Preview International comics. I’ve branched out very widely since starting, writing about History, Science & Nature, Mental Health and other topics.

My main focus though is likely to always be Judge Dredd.

So what is Judge Dredd: Uprising?

The event is run by Little Lion Entertainment who brought a live version of Crystal Maze to the public in 2016.

Like Crystal Maze this experience will pit a team of players against Physical and Mental Tests. Moving through a number of locations in Brit Cit, the Mega City found in the Soutrh of England in the world of Judge Dredd in 2000AD.

Extensive sets are promised alongside interactive technology and a live cast of Robots, Mutants and various Bad Guys.

In Judge Dredd the city is as much a character as Dredd himself and there is plenty of scope for this. I’m interested in seeing how they develop Brit Cit for this. And it is exciting in itself that they intend presenting this in a setting not widely known outside the Comics.

2000AD was aimed at children when it was released in February 1977, I was 9. The comic has aged with the readership to a large degree and the 2012 film was rated for Adult viewing. So I’m not sure if this will be suitable for younger fans or not.

Rebellion are a Game Developer and the owners were such big fans of 2000Ad and Judge Dredd they actually bought the IP in 2000. They’ve since opened up Book Publishing and under the branding of Treasury of British Comics they release reprints and new versions of Comics spanning decades of Publication history.

With a Judge Dredd TV Series and a Rogue Trooper film from Duncan Jones planned for their Film Studio in Oxfordshire there are hopefully plenty of big things coming for fans such as myself.

I help run Lawless Comic Con in Bristol and know a lot of other Dredd fans from there and other sources. I know there is an awful lot of interest out there.

You can register interest in this event on the Judge Dredd: Uprising site

Tom Lionetti-Maguire, Founder and CEO of Little Lion:

“This new show is insanely exciting! The experience is part comic book, part sci-fi film, part immersive theatre, part escape room, part action adventure and part indoor theme park… all wrapped into one.

“This is our second show and I really wanted us to push the boundaries of what audiences can expect, to explore the space between theatre, film and reality. With Uprising we have really achieved that.

“Judge Dredd’s mega-cities are a wild, prophetic and very funny world of future crime, surreal action and crazed citizens… and now you can experience that world for yourself. It’s time to choose your side.”

CEO of Rebellion, Jason Kingsley OBE, owners and publishers of Judge Dredd:

“The world of Judge Dredd is the greatest imaginative universe to come out of British comics and we’re proud to bring it to ever wider audiences. Every reader has dreamed of setting foot in a Mega-City, and with Judge Dredd Uprising: The LIVE Experience they can do just that…”
