About me and this blog

My name is Steve Hargett. I’m the father of two grown children, one of which has two growing children of her own. I live in Leeds, UK.

I write for my own enjoyment but I am pleased that people take the time to read what I write. I do publicize my writing, so clearly I am not too bashful. I publicize through my Twitter account @Chiropterarex, my facebook page and my Google+ page. I also usually tell the creator I am writing a review of their work, via Twitter, Facebook or other means.

Despite this courtesy contact my reviews are my genuine held opinions. My reviews will appear mostly positive as I am currently writing reviews about creative work I have enjoyed. After all, I am writing primarily for my own enjoyment as I said above.

I also review some publications on request and so far everyone who has requested I review something has taken obvious steps to be sure that their product is something they can reasonably expect that I will like. I’ve been asked to review comics and a BBC TV show.

Until recently if I include images on any page it was only after asking permission from the copyright holder. Or the images were supplied to me by the copyright holder. I have now started using cover images without permission as it is customary to do so for reviews. I also sometimes use promotional images from the official pages of TV programs I review. If I use more than this, for example sample pages from a comic, it is still after being granted or obtaining permission.

The title image for this blog was originally created with the Badger program by Michael Carroll. In 2013 however Michael made me a new one, much higher resolution and more 3d.

May 2014 I took part in Lawgiver: A Celebration of Dredd, a convention in Birmingham dedicated to Judge Dredd and ran two panels. Later in 2014 a character named Judge-Tutor Semple appeared in the e-novella The Third Law by Michael Carroll, as you can imagine I was very thrilled.

I hope you enjoy what you read here.

Hi Steve – I was wondering if you’d be interested in reviewing my new graphic novel ‘Neroy Sphinx: Back in the Game’ from FutureQuake? It’s a Heist/Sci-Fi tale very much in classic 2000AD mode, and both Mike Carroll and John Wagner had some kind words for it. If so, I’d be happy to send you a review PDF copy. Cheers, Daniel

    • Sure, you on FB? I can drop you a message with contact details. Bolt & Richmond both have my email address.

Hi No, I’m not on FB (but will be soon) – I can ask Bolt for your email, but of course if you’d care to pass it on to me, I could send the PDF directly,

        Cheers Daniel

Hello Steve, you might remember my name from issue 3 of The Psychedelic Journal of Time Travel (I wrote Event Horizon). I like your blog! I was just rereading your review of PJOTT #3 today, and wondering if you’d be interested in reviewing my webcomic?

It’s essentially the same format as a standard comic book, but distributing it through the web is easier on a tight budget than it would be in print.

It’s about a superheroine struggling to fit in with a society she is isolated from because of the way her powers make her different. I was inspired to write it based on my own experiences with disability.

Thanks for giving this post a look
    – Mike
