Ordinary by Rob Williams and D’Israeli (Preview Pages) – Judge Dredd Megazine 340 out 18th September

Ordinary

A story by Rob Williams illustrated by D’Israeli.

Judge Dredd Megazine has a Creator-Owned slot from time to time where new work is showcased from some of the finest comic creators. They serialised Andy Diggle and Jock’s Snapshot, later reprinted by Image Comics, and Simon Spurrier and PJ Holden’s Numbercruncher, recently collected by Titan Comics. And…

Creators publishing stories in the Megazine’s creator-owned slot receive both a page rate AND full control of their property.

Now it is Rob Williams and D’Israeli with their Creator-Owned story – Ordinary.

Michael Fisher is an ordinary man who lives an ordinary life in Queens, New York. What seems to start as an ordinary day may well turn out to make Michael more or less ordinary.

One of Tharg’s minions passed me the following preview pages to share.

If you are used to D’Israeli’s art from Stickleback you might think this story looks a bit ordinary. A very different style here. It is cartoony, full of motion and character. It isn’t even very similar to his work on Low Life. That’s D’Israeli for you, a chameleon.

These pages offer a teaser of what looks to be a rather interesting plot. Michael Fisher may be ordinary but it seems something rather different is happening today.

Not very hi-tech here at Judge-Tutor Semple, you’ll need to click ‘back’ after viewing these pages.

“What if one day everyone on the planet woke up with superpowers? Except one. Middle-aged divorcee plumber Michael Fisher is from Queens, New York. And has just become THE most ordinary man in the world. But super powers don’t lead to utopia – suddenly every argument, every slight, every crime on the planet leads to massive loss of life, and it soon becomes clear that a cure needs to be found for this plague if humanity is to survive. And the cure is inside Michael, who quickly becomes the most wanted man on the planet.”

The first installment is in Judge Dredd Megazine 340 on sale 18th September 2013 in comic shops and day and date available digitally through the 2000 AD iPad app, DRM-free from the 2000 AD webshop.

Also starting in the Megazine is the official comic sequel to the 2012 Dredd movie – Underbelly by Arthur Wyatt and Henry Flint
