Easter Tournament -Live Jousting review

20240401_144719

It’s a while since I’ve written about Jousting. It used to be a regular feature on this blog, as did other things from Royal Armouries in Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK. There are articles on here about construction demonstrations,  talks, music and dance, and more.

I’ve been a fan of Jousting for decades and I have even presented the Champion with the Seord of Honour when that was the prize for individual winner.

This is an unscripted, full contact sport.

Competitors:
UK – Mike Collin & Roy Murray
France – Luc Petillot & Marie Baron
Italy – Alberto Carminato & Dario Cattaneo

Knight Marshall – Andy Deane

Horses trained and supplied by Atkinson Action horses.

Lawless – A Celebration of British Comics – A Moderator’s view.

I’ve been involved with Lawless from the start. Su Hadrell, the Organiser of the Con, knew of my Blog and that I reviewed comics and interviewed creators. She asked if I would like to Moderate some Panels at a Judge Dredd themed Convention. I leapt at the chance.

I am an outgoing introvert. Someone who by nature chooses to be alone or in small groups. But also someone who can turn that around and deliberately seek attention. For example I have done Amatuer Dramatics and performed in a number of Plays and Sketches. I used to Dance, and before I had Arthritis I would pull out my party piece of Cossack Dancing – with all the kicks and jumping up and down etc.

So to sit on stage and interview famous people. Yeah, this introvert can do that (well he thinks he can (or does he)). Continue reading

Ben Atkinson Horses at Liberty – Your Horse Live

ben-600x600Ben Atkinson was to be performing live at Your Horse Live in Warwickshire 6th to 8th November 2020

Obviously due to Covid the event couldn’t go ahead as planned.

So his performance is by Video. A link to the video is in the article.

Also I have a link to his Q&A session he filmed for Your Horse Live.

I have known Ben for a few years now. He is a brilliant Horseman and  a great performer. You may know him from TV shows such as Poldark and Victoria. He is a member of Atkinson Action Horses who supply horses, training, stunt riders, etc to film and TV.

I know him through his appearance at Royal Armouries in Horse Stunt Shows and the Jousting there. Continue reading

Kicking Off Comics – My Input to Thought Bubble Comic Festival – Online 9th to 15th November 2020

Fringe logo titlesThought Bubble is, to the best of my knowledge, the largest Comic Converntion in UK. Other Conventions may be larger but are mixed Film, TV and Comics.

Due to Covid19 we can’t attend Conventions at the moment. I only regularl ayyend two Conventions. Lawless in Bristol, where I Moderate Panels, and Thought Bubble.

Thought Bubble has a weekend Convention and the preceeding week usually has Fringe events such a Comics Workshops.

This year Thought Bubble asked for people to offer their input to Thought Bubble Fringe online. I am particpating with a Video which i will be uploading to YouTube on Thursday 12th November 2020. My Guests are Shea Proulx, Montyneo and Umar Ditta.

Details of everything planned for Thought Bubble Programme was released last week and my Video Panel is included. Continue reading

Everything in Moderation – Live vs Video Comic Panels for Cons

Fringe logo final-1Today I recorded a Zoom conversation with three Guests. Shea Proulx, Montynero and Umar Ditta.

This is for Thought Bubble Fringe – part of Thought Bubble Comic Art Festival.

This will be released during the Festival – It will be on YouTube on Thursdayt 12th November 2020.

I Moderate Panels at Lawless, a Comic Convention which usually runs in May in Bristol. It is a much different scale to Thought Bubble, usually around 20 Guests with 200 members of the public.

So what did I find different today filming a conversation over Zoom compared to sat on a Stage with the Guests? Continue reading

What I learnt This Week – 28 June to 04 July 2020

The more Eagle-eyed reader might spot a difference this week.

Last Week I covered 22nd to 28th June. This week I’m starting on 28 June. I realised that publishing on Sunday was restricting me a little as I was including the day I published. So from now I will cover the previous Sunday to Saturday. That way if I learn something after publishing I don’t need to squeeze it in to Monday…

I’m aware no one reading this would know I had fudged it… but if it troubled me when I realised.

This article won’t double up on anything I learnt on 28th…

You may also have noticed I have dropped the ‘th’ in the date format. I am doing this as I am aware non-native English Speakers sometimes struggle with ‘st’ and ‘nd’. Dates are clear enough without them. I use Month name to avoid International/US date convention confusion.

So, what did I learn in this week? Continue reading

Lawgiver MkIV – a Dredd Convention – Saturday 26th May 2018 in Bristol, UK

header-id-003.jpg

Saturday 26th May 2018
at Double Tree by Hilton
Bristol, BS1 6NJ

Tickets – £25.00
Traders – £20.00

Guest List:
Alan Grant, Mick McMahon, Simon Bisley, Henry Flint, John Higgins, Pete Doherty, Thomas Foster, David Roach, Ryan Brown, Dylan Teague, Patrick Goddard, Mike Collins, Steve Austin.

Lawgiver is an unauthorised Judge Dredd Convention run on a ‘not for ptofit’ basis. There are no ties with 2000AD or Rebellion, the owners of 2000AD. This is a fan event run by fans and run for fans.

I’ve been involved with Lawgiver from the start, I was asked to be part of the Organiser Group by the Promoters, Rule32Cafe. So this isn’t 100% unbiased nut as I only publicise things I like that doesn’t alter what I’ll say.

This is a day long event aimed at fans of Judge Dredd, Focus is predominantly on the Comic Character as published by the IP holders Rebellion but all things Dredd are welcome from print to screen.

In the past we’ve focused on the amazing Fan Film Judge Minty and of course the 2012 film Dredd. Obviously we are as excited about the upcoming TV series, Mega City One. expected sometime around (late) 2019.

What happens at Lawgiver? Continue reading

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAYou’ll note Ironman features on the official image from Royal Armouries at the head of this article. They have a full size replica built by Mark Pearson for the Armouries. Mark is pictured on the right here with the suit. On the left is Adi Granov who designed the suits for all three Ironman films, as well as the Chitauri for the first Avengers film.

Adi attended this even in 2014 and was interviewed by artist Peter Doherty about his work with Marvel in comics, film and beyond. Peter is a regular participant at this event.

It can’t always be predicted what will go on at this event below are a few ideas Continue reading

Update on the RPG Project in Uganda

Koro has gone wild.jpgIn March I wrote about a cool set up that a young man in Uganda.

Patrick had started where he is encouraging other youngsters to develop their imaginations and team working through Pathfinder – the love-child of Dungeons & Dragons that is published by Paizo.

So far there are from what I understand three or four tabletop groups playing Pathfinder. This is Patrick’s project as part of the Butterfly Project, a scheme to encourage children in rural Uganda to become leaders by example. The Butterfly Project is supported by the UK Charity Chrysalis Youth Empowerment Network (CYEN).

Now Patrick has started on a bigger and bolder version of his project and needs a bit of help. Continue reading
