Recently I heard some details about the back issue service for this collection from someone that has used it. The order was fulfilled quickly at the cover price with only 50p added for P&P. That’s pretty good value.
There is a note in the Intro to this book that the earlier adventures of Shimura will be included in volume 60 of the Mega Collection, Hondo-City Justice. I’m not sure which Issue that will be, as noted in my Preview of Issue 9 the Volume number doesn’t match the Issue Number.
The Japanese Judges first appeared in the 1989 Judge Dredd story Our Man in Hondo City by John Wagner. As with much of Judge Dredd there is a strong use of stereotypes in that story. One of those stereotypes is of course the Samurai and their honour system, Bushido. This stereotype was obvious to be transplanted on to the Judges.
The ongoing series was created by Robbie Morrison and Colin MacNeil and Robbie goes in to more detail about this in the Interview conducted by Michael Molcher.
In this book we are joining the series part way in. Shimura has gone Ronin and his one time student, Judge Inspecter Inaba has been tasked to find him. There is a mystery here, why has her once honourable master left his position?
There are a large number of stories in this volume as many are single issue stories. All the stories are written by Robbie Morrison with art from a variety of Artists, including Colin MacNeil, some are black and white others are in colour, mostly with Simon Fraser on colours.
So the volume gives a good variation throughout and is mostly in publication order.
